Novice Women

Novice women: a summary from the captain

Emilie Gale - Novice Women’s Captain

One of the best decisions I made when starting university was joining the Nov Women squad. It’s a great chance to take up something completely new and join one of the biggest societies on campus.

We train on the water twice a week and this is supplemented with regular cardio and strength training. Whether you’re looking to gain confidence around the gym, or just like having a bit of structure it’s an all-encompassing approach.

For those who love a bit of competition, there are plenty of racing opportunities throughout the year. Competing in regattas is undoubtedly one of the highlights, especially when it’s against other novice squads from around the country. We take part in the British Uni Champs (BUCs) every year and it’s an amazing feeling when you get to see all your hard work pay off at the end of the year.

Training aside, it’s a great way to meet new people and find socials you enjoy at uni. Social life at a campus uni can be tough but the boat club regular meet up for a range of different social events (something for everyone).
